An identity theft suspect accused of racking up over $100,000 in fraudulent purchases has been arrested in Coralville.
Coralville Police executed a search warrant on a room at the Baymont Inn & Suites on 6th Street just before 11:15 Tuesday morning. The warrant was based on information received from the Stevens Point, Wisconsin police department indicating stolen property would be found at the Baymont.
30-year-old Dharmesh Patel of Iowa City was taken into custody at the scene. He’s charged with 1st Degree Theft, a Class C Felony punishable by a maximum of ten years in prison.
A warrant has also been issued for Patel’s arrest in Stevens Point.
