A man convicted in a Coralville armed robbery case has been given credit for time served on separate charges that he threatened a witness.
20-year-old Artquon Kirksey of Boston Way reached a plea deal with prosecutors last week.
Coralville Police say Kirksey and another man, identified as 20-year-old Chico Williams of Wilson Avenue in Cedar Rapids, were driving on the 900 block of Boston Way just after 4pm on April 17th when they both displayed handguns to the alleged victim. The man told police he thought he was going to be shot by the way they were holding the guns. Another witness confirmed seeing the two displaying the handguns.
Kirksey and Williams were both arrested and charged with Assault While Displaying a Dangerous Weapon and 1st Degree Harassment, charges that carry a maximum total sentence of four years in prison.
Online records show Kirksey agreed to plead guilty to a lesser charge of 3rd Degree Harassment in exchange for the 1st Degree Harassment and Assault charges being dropped. He was given a 30-day jail sentence on Monday with credit for time served.
Williams still has a case management conference set for August 12th.
Kirksey was given a five-year suspended sentence on a Willful Injury Causing Bodily Injury charge last month stemming from an armed robbery in Coralville in 2017. A 1st Degree Robbery charge was dropped. Kirksey and two other men robbed a man at gunpoint on 7th Avenue after what was described as “an arranged transaction” went awry. The shooter, 25-year-old Soloman Marshall, was given a ten-year prison sentence.
