What if you ran a radio station but nobody could hear it?

That’s the problem facing non-profit KICI 105.3, which went on the air last summer as a non-commercial, volunteer-based community station behind Uptown Bill’s on South Dubuque Street. Earlier this week the station’s antenna, located atop the Ecumenical Tower on East Washington Street, froze, preventing its signal from reaching its usual licensed radius of five miles. But KICI manager Holly Hart tells KCRG TV-9 she hopes warmer weather could help them get back on the air soon. Hart added the station is looking at ways to protect against similar issues in the future.

Because the station is mostly automated, programming continues to run despite radio listeners being unable to hear it.
