A preliminary hearing has been set for a Coralville man accused in a robbery and stabbing at Coral Ridge Mall.
18-year-old John Greb of Wind Ridge Drive will make an initial court appearance on May 1st. Bond is set at $35,000.
Coralville Police say Greb brandished a knife during a robbery attempt at Target just before 5:30pm on April 20th. Greb allegedly used the knife to slash at and stab a security guard, who sustained unspecified injuries.
Responding officers located Greb fleeing from the area near Best Buy to the nearby pedestrian tunnel under Interstate 80. One officer drove down the trail with his lights and siren activated, causing Greb to run. He allegedly ignored multiple commands to put down the knife, show his hands and get on the ground.
Greb was eventually apprehended after a brief foot chase. He was covered in blood, and was found in possession of a bloody knife. A search of Greb’s person turned up several baggies containing Adderall, as well as a pipe with residue believed to be used for smoking marijuana.
Greb is charged with 1st Degree Robbery, Willful Injury Causing Bodily Injury, Interference with Official Acts and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of over 30 years in prison.
