Couple allegedly drunk on boxed wine accused of leaving children at home alone while having sex on North Liberty bike trail

North Liberty Police say a couple drunk on boxed wine left their children home alone together while they had sex on a nearby bike path.
Officers say 32-year-old Daniel Walshire of the Flint Creek Estates manufactured housing community in Wellman and 31-year-old Rebekah Mecca of the Golf View Estates manufactured housing community were found having sex on the bike trial near Golf View just after 12:45am Friday. Walshire allegedly had his pants around his ankles, while Mecca was allegedly nude on top of him.
The two appeared to be intoxicated and allegedly told police they left their children home alone in Mecca’s nearby trailer. Mecca’s nine-year-old daughter was put in charge of watching Walshire’s three-year-old son. Police determined the daughter was not of appropriate age to be watching over a three-year-old.
Mecca and Walshire allegedly admitted to drinking several glasses of boxed wine before the incident. Both showed multiple signs of intoxication, and each had blood alcohol concentrations above a .04%.
Mecca and Walshire are each charged with Child Endangerment and Public Intoxication. If convicted, they each face a maximum of 25 months in prison.
