Issues at two municipal pools are cutting into resident swimming time.
Staff at the North Liberty community pool believe they’ve figured out the problem that’s resulted in cloudy water in the outdoor pool, but its required the pool to be closed for a few days.
The potential remedy involves vacuuming out and replacing about 8 tons of sand in the pool filters. Once the sand is removed, staff has to inspect the equipment to determine if additional repairs are to be made.
In the meantime, the outdoor pool is closed through Wednesday, and has reduced hours, from noon to 3pm and 6 to 9pm Thursday and Friday. Pool use will be limited to 500 patrons at a time. Updates will be posted on the city’s website.
In Iowa City, City Park Pool will be down from 11am to 5pm Tuesday while repairs are made to the water heater system for the locker rooms. That repair necessitates the shutoff of all water to the facility. Lap swim will still be available from 6:15 to 9am and swim lessons will run as scheduled from 9 to 11am. Officials hope to reopen the pool at 5pm Tuesday for twilight swim.
