Iowa City Police discovered a gun in the backpack of a local high school student Wednesday.
According to an ICPD news release, officers responded to Tate High School on East Court Street at 9:30am for a report of a possible gun in a student’s backpack. When officers arrived, they located the student outside the school and seized a bag that was in his possession. A search warrant was acquired and, after several hours, a loaded firearm was located inside the bag.
No threats were made to school students or staff and no one was injured during the incident.
The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
