An Iowa City area transient has been arrested after being accused of stealing bicycles.
Police say they were notified Saturday at around 7:15pm that 44-year-old William Nutt had been seen taking a bike tire. When officers came in contact with him, he was found in possession of two bikes reported as stolen to the ICPD.
A subsequent search of Nutt found several tools used to commit thefts and/or burglaries, including pliers, lock picking tools, and small thin metal objects used to pick locks. He also reportedly had three syringes on him that he admitted were used for methamphetamine.
Nutt has been charged with 3rd degree theft, possession of burlgar’s tools and possession of drug paraphernalia. If convicted on the charges, Nutt could be sentenced to over four years in prison.
