The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says an Uzi-toting Coralville man ran down two bystanders while trying to steal a car last summer.

The alleged incident happened on July 19th at the Breckenridge Estates manufactured housing community on Taft Avenue. According to arrest records, just before 9:15 that night 23-year-old Michael McClinton of 21st Avenue Place was trying to steal a car when he pointed an Uzi at three different individuals. He allegedly pressed the barrel of the gun against one victim’s face and forced him to exit the vehicle. While attempting to flee in the car, McClinton allegedly ran over two people, causing serious injury to a female victim. Investigators say McClinton then continued fleeing on foot with the Uzi still in his possession.

McClinton remained at-large until he was arrested just after 7:45 Saturday night near Highway 965 and Sara Court in North Liberty for Driving While Barred. He now faces charges of Going Armed with Intent, two counts of Assault Causing Serious Injury, and three counts of Assault While Displaying a Dangerous Weapon. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of 23 years in prison.
