The Washington County Sheriff’s Office says a North Liberty man stole a wallet that was accidentally left at the Riverside Casino and Golf Resort, then tried using one of the credit cards inside.

Records from the Iowa Department of Corrections show Washington County deputies were called to the casino on October 16th. The victim told investigators he had accidentally left a wallet containing $1,000 on a bench outside the hotel entrance. Security video shows a man take the wallet, then try to make three different failed transactions at the casino with a credit card he found inside. Video obtained from the nearby Riverside Travel Mart shows the same man try to make three failed transitions there.

The suspect was eventually identified as 23-year-old Cordero Bertling of South Dubuque Street. He was arrested on November 13th and charged with 3rd Degree Theft and Unauthorized Use of a Credit Card. If convicted of both counts, he faces a maximum of four years in prison.
