Construction is finally complete on the Ped Mall in downtown Iowa City, just in time for the Christmas shopping season.
The two-year project began last year, including the closing of various areas of the Ped Mall for months at a time.
Crew members finished installing bicycle racks on the east and west end of College Street earlier this fall. City of Iowa City kiosks were installed on both ends as well.
Benches were installed on the west end. The stage area is finished, and all brick pavers have been installed.
Brick has been removed from the College and Clinton streets intersection and replaced with full-depth concrete.
The project completion comes at an opportune time for downtown businesses, with Black Friday and Small Business Saturday coming at the end of this week.
