Iowa City Police say a revoked driver tried to fool them during a traffic stop by switching into the passenger seat of his car…even though he was the only person in the vehicle.
Arrest records indicate 25-year-old Antoine Bryant of Wayne Avenue pulled into a driveway near the Wayne Avenue/Arthur Street intersection just before 9:45 Wednesday night after seeing a marked police car. Bryant, who was the only passenger in the vehicle, then switched into the passenger seat. That caught the attention of the officer in the squad car, who made contact with Bryant.
The officer confirmed Bryant had a warrant for his arrest after he skipped arraignment on an Operating While Intoxicated charge on November 15th. His license was also revoked.
When asked to exit the vehicle, Bryant allegedly refused and rolled up the car windows. Police say Bryant refused further commands to step out of the car, even after being told there was a warrant for his arrest. He was eventually talked out of the vehicle, but he allegedly resisted officers’ efforts to put him in handcuffs.
Bryant is charged with Driving While Revoked and Interference with Official Acts. If convicted, he faces a maximum of 13 months in jail.
