It was anything but a “Friendsgiving” as a Thanksgiving guest overstayed her welcome in Iowa City Thursday, allegedly assaulting one of her hosts and throwing a brick through the woman’s window.
Iowa City Police responded to a disturbance at 2482 Lakeside Drive just after 12:15 Friday morning. An investigation determined that 25-year-old Jasmine Cherry of South Governor Street has arrived at the apartment around 2pm Thursday as an invited guest. After ten hours, Cherry allegedly became belligerent and started harassing one of the attendees. The apartment’s residents asked Cherry to leave, but she refused, instead allegedly striking one of the hosts in the face causing bleeding to the victim’s mouth and a scratch to the cheek.
Cherry finally left, although as she was doing so she allegedly threw a brick through the family’s window, shattering it and causing approximately $250 in damage.
Police say Cherry resisted arrest, pulling her arms apart during handcuffing attempts, pulling away from officers and refusing to sit in the back of the patrol car.
Cherry is charged with 1st Degree Burglary, Assault Causing Bodily Injury, 5th Degree Criminal Mischief and Interference With Official Acts. If convicted on all charges, she faces a maximum of over 26 years in prison.
Cherry was arrested last weekend after allegedly refusing to return $754 in materials from the Iowa City Public Library.
