Allegedly crashing her car through a fence, then driving around a yard until Johnson County deputies could arrive on the scene has led to a felony charge against a Sigourney woman.
Deputies were first alerted to a possible intoxicated driver leaving Iowa City on Highway 1 West just before 1:15 Saturday morning. Arrest records indicate 51-year-old Stephanie Wurr drove through a fence at 2566 Highway 1 Southwest, then drove around the property until officers could arrive at the scene. A Google search shows the property belongs to a business called “Iowa Farmhouse and Barntiques”.
Wurr allegedly tried to drive away when contacted by deputies. Investigators say she smelled of ingested alcohol, admitted to drinking too much to drive and showed signs of impairment, including difficulty walking on her own. Her blood alcohol content was measured at .218 on a Datamaster.
Wurr is charged with Operating While Intoxicated – 3rd or Subsequent Offense, a Class D felony punishable by a maximum of five years in prison. She has previous OWI convictions in Johnson County in 2010 and Wapello County in 2012.
