A North Liberty man was taken into custody Sunday night after an alleged assault at his home.

According to police, 51-year-old Chadwick Northam of West Zeller Street assaulted the victim, allegedly causing injuries that included a raised red area on the victim’s chest and a small laceration to the victim’s thumb.

Northam is also accused of taking the victim’s cellphone while they were trying to call 9-1-1.

Arrest reports don’t indicate the nature of the two’s relationship other than to say that they are adult members of the same household.

Northam was charged with first offense domestic abuse assault and obstruction of emergency communications. If convicted on both counts, he could be sentenced to 60 days in jail.

A no-contact order was requested between the two parties.
