The Cedar Rapids Fire Department is investigating a Sunday morning blaze that damaged a home and a detached garage.
According to Battalion Chief Rick Halleran, they were called to the 4600 block of White Pine Drive Northeast around 10:45am by multiple reports of a house fire.
Upon arrival, crews found the two-story home with fire and smoke on the back side of the home extending to the roof. Firefighters searched the home and found it empty. They were able to have the fire under control in about 20 minutes. Crews remained at the scene until the fire was completely extinguished.
No injuries were reported, and no estimate of damage was given.
One of the neighbors who called in the fire was KCJJ sales representative Jim Walker, who tells us that the couple who lives in the home had a fire pit going the night before, and in the morning put the ashes in a bin that was up against the home. They left and the fire started afterwards.
