Locking his dog in the trunk of his car has led to an Animal Neglect charge against an Iowa City man.
Iowa City Police received multiple calls from residents at the Town & Campus Apartments on Arthur Street saying that one of their neighbors, 56-year-old Adrian Stokes, had put his dog in the trunk of his car and shut the lid. There was no water in the trunk, and the dog was left in there for what police called an “excessive amount of time”.
Stokes only let the dog out of the trunk after being told to do so by arriving officers.
Animal Neglect is a simple misdemeanor punishable by a maximum of 30 days in jail. An initial court appearance is set for December 16th.
Stokes also faces a felony charge of Domestic Abuse Assault Impeding Airflow after allegedly choking a woman at his apartment last April. A case management conference for that charge is set for Friday.
