Cedar Rapids police report second armed robbery this week

Cedar Rapids Police say another armed robbery was committed this week.

According to a media release, the incident occurred at the HyVee Wine and Spirits Department at the Oakland Road Northeast location. An employee called police at about 7:30pm to report that a clerk there had been robbed at gunpoint.

The suspect was described as a black male wearing a black sweatshirt and black facemask, armed with a handgun. Officers searched the area but were not able to locate the suspect.

No injuries were reported, and the incident is under an ongoing investigation.

This is the second armed robbery in the city this week. Tuesday evening at about 8pm, police were called to the Subway sandwich shop on Gateway Place Southwest on reports of an armed robbery. That suspect was described as a black male in his late 30s. The suspect fled on foot with cash. A search of the area came up empty.

Police have not indicated whether the two armed robberies are related.
