A Coralville man was arrested Saturday night after a verbal argument with his wife allegedly turned physical.

Police say the incident occurred on the 900 block of 22nd Avenue at around 8:15pm Saturday. The victim stated that she and 25-year-old Abongo Tabu were arguing when he hit her on the right side of the head.  The woman began crying, and tried to call 9-1-1, but Tabu reportedly took her cellphone and threw it behind the couch.

Tabu then allegedly threw his wife to the ground and bit her arm during the altercation, causing pain and swelling. He reportedly admitted to police to pushing her to the ground.

Tabu was arrested and charged with Domestic Abuse Assault causing Injury, and Obstruction with Emergency Communications. If convicted on both counts, he could be sentenced to up to 13 months in jail. A no-contact order was requested between the two parties.
