(City of Cedar Rapids news release)
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA – October 14, 2021– On Thursday, October 14 at 2:10 a.m. the City’s Joint Communications Center received a call of a suspicious person at 361 Carnaby Drive NE.
Police officers arrived on scene and located a 17-year old male sitting outside the residence covered in blood. Upon checking his welfare, the 17-year old told officers he had killed his parents. Officers then checked the residence and found two individuals inside the home deceased.
The names of the victims found deceased are:
- Casey Arthur Orton, DOB/05-02-1979, age 42
- Misty Dawn Scott Slade, DOB/08-04-1980, age 41
As a result of the investigation, and consultation with the Linn County Attorney’s Office, the son, Ethan Alexander Orton, DOB/03-27-2004, age 17, has been arrested for two counts of Murder-1st Degree. Due to the seriousness of the offenses the 17-year old’s charges were direct filed to adult court. Ethan Orton was transported to the Linn County Detention Center. He is accused of using a knife and axe to kill his mother and father.
An investigation into the facts and circumstances of this case is continuing.
