An Iowa City man was arrested Monday after allegedly striking his wife and pinning her to the floor in front of their 14-month-old child.

Police say the incident occurred around 6:15pm at the couple’s Bittersweet Court residence. 29-year-old Arsene Kabamba Tshibanda and the woman reportedly have been together for about four years and married this year.  During an argument regarding the couple’s possible separation, Kabamba Tshibanda allegedly pinned his wife to the bedroom floor and struck her 6-7 times.

The woman was bleeding from the face and ear, and complained of pain from the reported assault. Both parties acknowledged that their child witnessed the incident.

Kabamba Tshibanda was taken into custody and charged with Domestic Abuse Assault causing Injury and Child Endangerment. If convicted on both counts, he could be sentenced to up to three years in jail.

A no-contact order was requested between the two parties.
