An Iowa City man involved in a multi-vehicle crash on northbound Highway 218 Saturday morning was charged with OWI.
Police came upon the incident at 6:50 am at the 93 mile marker. Officers on patrol investigated the crash and conducted interviews with the people involved.. The driver of a 2012 Honda, 27-year-old Miguel Preciado of the Hilltop Trailer Park was allegedly observed by both officers on scene as having the odor of alcohol on his person.
Preciado reportedly admitted that he had been drinking until 1:30am that day and consented to field sobriety testing. After showing signs of impairment, a PBT was administered that gave a blood-alcohol reading of .203 percent.
Preciado was arrested and charged with his first OWI, a serious misdemeanor.
