Major phases of two long-term Iowa City road construction projects will close a pair of heavily-travelled streets starting on Monday.

The next phase of the Rochester Avenue Reconstruction Project gets underway Monday, when city officials will close the street from Ralston Creek to Windsor Drive.

The detour bypasses Rochester by using Parsons Avenue, Glendale Road, and Ashwood Drive.

As part of the project, different parts of Rochester from Ralston Creek to 1st Avenue will be totally closed to traffic at different times between now and December. To learn more, visit icgov.org/Rochester.

Also starting Monday, the next phase of the Orchard Street Reconstruction Project will see the street completely closed between Douglass Street and 1040 Orchard Street. Access to Mike’s Lock & eKeys, Spenler Tire, KFC, Harbor Freight, and Accurate Automotive will be maintained via Highway 1. Access to Douglass Street and all other local businesses will be maintained via Benton Street.

Detour routes will be posted on Highway 1, Riverside Drive, and Benton Street.

It is anticipated normal traffic on Orchard Street will resume by the end of the day on Friday, October 28th. For information on road construction in Iowa City, visit www.icgov.org/travelalerts.
