The Hamburg Inn has reopened.

The Press-Citizen reports that current manager Briana Dawson did not want to advertise the reopening so that her staff of 12, mostly newcomers with a few returning employees, would not be overwhelmed by large crowds.

The iconic Iowa City restaurant had been closed for about two months after a burst water pipe caused damage to the building the week of Christmas. Reports that managers and employees weren’t paid at the end of that month were dismissed as rumors by spokesperson Joseph Mulvihill, who helped the new management team with the reopening.

The Hamburg Inn closed in January to undergo extensive repairs and some upgrades.

Dawson says that other than a few new menu items, the fare remains the same.

The current hours are 7 am to 3 pm weekdays and 7 am to 8 pm weekends.
