A Cedar Rapids man was reportedly going over 100 miles per hour when pulled over by a sheriff’s deputy Sunday afternoon.

The arrest reports that the incident occurred around 4pm. The trooper stated he was heading north on I380 at the 3 mile marker when 23-year-old Denzel Hodges of 4th Avenue Southwest passed him in the right lane in a 2009 Chevy Impala going over 100 miles per hour. The trooper caught up with Hodges and determined he was speeding at 105 miles per hour and still pulling away.

Hodges was allegedly observed passing vehicles on the right shoulder, cutting off multiple vehicles, tailgating vehicles and swerving over all lanes of travel.

Once pulled over, Hodges reportedly showed signs of intoxication including bloodshot watery eyes, and the odor of ingested alcohol. After performing poorly on field testing, he refused chemical testing.

Hodges was charged with OWI, reckless driving, and other moving violations. The OWI charge is his first, which makes it a serious misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of up to one year if convicted.
