A Chicago man has been arrested for his involvement in an Iowa City shooting over three years ago.

Police were called to the intersection of Brown and Governor Streets on reports of multiple shots fired the evening of January 28th, 2020.  Responding officers found an SUV crashed into a parked car, with both vehicles struck by gunfire.

Witnesses reported that one person fled south through yards, and officers located another subject fleeing north who was found to have two gunshot wounds. That subject, the driver of the SUV, told officers he was giving a ride to an unknown subject when they pulled out a black handgun with an extended magazine. The driver then jumped out of the SUV, which caused it to crash. He was shot when he began to run away, and provided little other details.

Investigators found at least 27 shots fired, striking the two vehicles, a home, and a tree. They also found a blood trail and footprints heading south from the scene.

A short while later, David Glee Jr. of Chicago arrived at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids with a grazing gunshot wound to his head. Police patted down a female who arrived with him and located a 9mm Glock handgun with an extended magazine. A check of the serial number showed the gun stolen from a vehicle in Iowa City in 2019.

The woman was interviewed by detectives and told them that Glee was involved in a shooting in Iowa City earlier in the night, and she saw him with the Glock.  He allegedly gave it to her to hold onto when they arrived at the hospital.

Investigators compared DNA from Glee and blood from the scene, finding a match. The recovered shell casings also matched the Glock.

Glee’s criminal record showed a number of felony convictions, the most recent being Assault with a Deadly Weapon in May 2019.

Once the investigation was completed, a warrant was issued for Glee’s arrest on January 20th of this year. He was taken to the Johnson County Jail Sunday afternoon. He’s charged with Trafficking in Stolen Weapons, Dominion or Control of a Firearm as a Convicted Felon, Reckless Use of a Firearm causing Bodily Injury, and Reckless use of a Firearm with Property Damage. If convicted on all counts, Glee could be sentenced to up to 22 years in prison.
