An Illinois man is accused of burglarizing locker rooms at Carver-Hawkeye Arena during a gymnastics event.
25-year-old Carlos Scott of North Chicago was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 2:30 Friday afternoon. University of Iowa Police say surveillance video shows Scott buy a ticket to the Iowa/Iowa State women’s gymnastics meet on March 4th, enter the arena, then head directly to the service elevator.
Once in the tunnel and locker room area, Scott can be seen on security video entering the Iowa State locker room, the Iowa women’s basketball locker room, the Iowa volleyball and gymnastics locker room, and finally the women’s basketball locker room a second time before leaving the arena. Scott reportedly wandered around the locker room areas for a span of about two-and-a-half hours.
Both gymnastics teams reported around $1,200 in cash, five gift cards valued at $130, a necklace and air pods as being stolen. Scott is also seen leaving the women’s basketball locker room while wearing a sweatshirt that he did not take in with him.
UI Police then learned that Scott had also attended the February 18th Hawkeye gymnastics meet against Rutgers, where he allegedly burglarized other areas of the arena, including stealing a black-and-gold cushioned folding chair with Tigerhawk insignias from the referee and officials locker room.
Scott faces seven counts of 2nd Degree Burglary. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of 70 years in prison.
