An Iowa City man who allegedly assaulted a woman he shares a child with faces drug possession charges after being apprehended by police.

Officers were called to a Coralville residence Thursday morning on reports of domestic abuse assault. Upon arrival, the victim claimed that she was assaulted by 25-year-old Eric Flowers of Broadway Street.  In her narrative, she claimed that Flowers hit her in the face and back, and choked her by holding her down on the floor by the neck.  The woman vomited after Flowers released his hands from her neck.

Police observed a laceration to the woman’s knee, which she believed happened when Flowers reportedly dragged her across the floor. He also allegedly threatened to kill her and their daughter.

Before leaving the scene, Flowers reportedly took the woman’s cellphone so she couldn’t call 911.

Flowers was located on Dubuque Street Sunday at 1:30am and allegedly took off running when police attempted to make contact with him.  During the ensuing chase, he reportedly ditched two bags that contained multiple baggies of marijuana and mushrooms, along with a digital scale.  Flowers was eventually caught and was found in possession of two cellphones.

He was charged with Domestic Abuse Assault 3rd or subsequent offense, Assault impeding Airflow and Obstruction of Emergency Communications for Thursday’s incident. He faces additional charges of Interference with Official Acts and two Controlled Substance violations after being apprehended Sunday. If convicted on all counts, Flowers could be sentenced to over 14 years in prison.
