The Johnson County Sheriff’s office has arrested a drunk driving suspect they say had a dangerously high breath alcohol level.
39-year-old Andrii Pavliv of Petsel Place in Iowa City was reportedly driving a sedan northbound on Oak Crest Hill Road north of Hills just before 11:00 Sunday morning. Arrest records indicate Pavliv turned westbound in the eastbound lane of 500th Street, then stopped his vehicle on the road while facing the wrong direction. Pavliv then allegedly had trouble conducting a U-turn to turn the vehicle the correct direction.
Deputies say Pavliv showed signs of intoxication, refused field sobriety testing and registered a breath alcohol level of .307%. Any BAC over .3% is considered extremely dangerous, indicating severe alcohol poisoning and potentially leading to loss of consciousness, slowed breathing, and even death.
Pavliv was eventually charged with Operating While Intoxicated.
