Allegedly installing a hidden camera inside an Iowa City mobile home has led to charges against one of its residents.
29-year-old Rafael Lara Cruz was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 3:15 Thursday afternoon. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says on March 27th a homeowner in the Modern Manor manufactured housing community discovered a surveillance camera hidden in a clock in a bathroom used by multiple residents. Investigators say one of the residents, Lara Cruz, was eventually determined to be the owner of the camera.
Lara Cruz is charged with Trespassing Involving a Camera or Electronic Surveillance Device. If convicted, he faces a maximum of two years in jail.
Records from the Johnson County Jail indicate a detainer has been requested for Lara Cruz from Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
