An Iowa City man was taken into custody Sunday after a reported altercation with his girlfriend led to another man getting assaulted.
The incident occurred at Shelter House at approximately 1:36pm. According to police, 55-year-old Anthony Upchurch was involved in an altercation with his girlfriend. A man on the scene attempted to mediate the situation, but Upchurch allegedly punched him in the face.
The man, who has a seizure disorder, reportedly had a laceration on his forehead and suffered a seizure shortly after being punched.
Upchurch was charged with Assault causing Bodily Injury and second offense Domestic Assault. If convicted on both counts, he could be sentenced to up to three years in prison.
