An Oxford native was arrested this week after allegedly threatening to commit a mass shooting at Iowa State University’s commencement.
CBS2 reports court documents indicate 28-year-old Tanner Bandy had been stalking a woman since October and sent her multiple threatening messages. One allegedly said that he was going to buy an AR-15 and, quote, “figure out how many people I can cut down at this effing commencement ceremony.”
The victim reported Bandy to authorities on Wednesday, and he was arrested Thursday by Iowa State University Police at the Story County Sheriff’s Office as he was trying to update his weapons permit. Authorities were also aware that Bandy owned a Glock-19 handgun that he said he always kept in his vehicle.
Bandy has been charged with five counts of first-degree harassment and one count of stalking while in possession of a dangerous weapon. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison.
Bandy is being held on $200,000 cash-only bond. A no-contact order was issued between Bandy and the victim.
Bandy is a graduate of Clear Creek Amana high school.
