An Iowa City man has been arrested after an alleged attack on his pregnant wife.
Police say 37-year-old Fabian Martinez Gonzalez of the Breckenridge Estates Manufactured Home Community on Taft Avenue and the victim reside together and have two children together. Friday at approximately 8:10pm, the two were in an argument over the punishment of her child. The mother tried to intervene with the punishment, and Martinez Gonzalez reportedly pulled on her clothes, shoulder and arm, leaving a red mark on her forearm.
Three children in total were in the residence at the time of the incident; Martinez Gonzalez was aware that his wife was pregnant at the time.
He was arrested and charged with Domestic Assault on a Pregnant Person with intent to inflict Serious Injury and Child Endangerment. He could be sentenced to up to seven years in prison if convicted on both counts.
A no-contact order was requested; additionally, a detainer was requested by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
