An Iowa City man called in for allegedly driving erratically was arrested on OWI charges Saturday afternoon.
Police were alerted to 64-year-old Troy Perkins of Bluffwood Lane after witnesses alleged he was hitting curbs and driving all over the road. One witness followed him into the parking lot of the Town and Campus Apartments on Arthur Street and called police.
Officers already on scene saw Perkins’ Jeep parked crookedly and came in contact with him. He was still in the driver’s seat and reportedly had bloodshot watery eyes and slurred speech. Police say Perkins was off balance and swayed constantly after he exited the vehicle. He performed poorly on field tests and provided a PBT allegedly showing his breath-alcohol level at .199 percent.
Perkins was taken into custody and charged with OWI third or subsequent offense; driving while barred, driving while revoked, and while suspended. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to up to eight years in prison.
