University of Iowa Health Care’s new North Liberty campus saw thousands of patients in its first week.
That’s according to UIHC officials, who say the new five story hospital now houses UI orthopedics and sports medicine clinics, as well as a new Emergency Room designed to give some relief to the main campus’ ER. Dozens of people visited the new ER and most days had single-digit minute waits, or no waits at all, similar to its downtown campus figures.
ER waits at the main campus have been notoriously long, sometimes as long as three hours before being seen. 4 percent leave without being seen at all.
Officials say it’s too early to tell what sort of impact the new ER will have on wait time at UIHC’s two other locations.
The Gazette reports the North Liberty ER is expecting over 10,000 patients in its first year. The UIHC handled over 54,000 ER visits in 2024.
