A California man was taken into custody Monday morning after driving recklessly and eluding a state trooper.

The incident involved 20-year-old Angel Pereida of Madera California. Just after 9am, the trooper was in pursuit after a complaint out of Iowa County claiming that he was driving at excessive speed, passing on the inside and outside shoulders of Interstate 80.  The trooper allegedly clocked Pereida at 130 miles per hour.

During the pursuit, Pereida reportedly drove around stopped vehicles at the intersection of I380 and Forevergreen Road, and weaved in and out of traffic with complete disregard for the safety of others.

He was taken into custody and charged with Felony Eluding and other moving violations including Speeding, Careless Driving, Reckless Driving, Improper Lane Usage, and Failure to Provide Financial Liability Insurance.  As of Tuesday morning he remained in the Johnson County Jail on $5000 bond, and could be sentenced to up to five years in prison if convicted on the Eluding charge.
