A new facility master plan is scheduled to be delivered to the Iowa City Community Schools board later this month.

The Gazette reports  Superintendent Matt Degner said a proposed facility plan would be presented to the school board at its May 27 meeting. The board is expected to vote on that plan in June.

Officials from the City of Coralville met with the school board during Tuesday’s work session and asked that they contribute $14 million to a new proposed recreation and aquatic center.

The facility, estimated to cost almost $59 million to build, would include three gymnasiums, an elevated track, a spa and three pools, one of which to be a competition pool with spectator seating. The City is planning to seek voter approval of a local-option sales tax or a general obligation bond either this November or next March.

The School Board partnered with Coralville to build the current rec center pool 37 years ago. The District has four schools that use the pool for their swim programs.

The proposed Master Plan would also include improving performing arts venues at City, West and Liberty High Schools.
