The Cedar Rapids Animal Care and Control Center was closed to the public this week due to a staff shortage.

The Gazette reports in Facebook posts Monday and Tuesday, the center explained that despite being closed to the public, new animals still can come in to the shelter and staff members still are working with the animals that are there — but community members cannot come into the shelter to see and adopt animals.

The post explained that the center simply doesn’t have the staff to do it all, and are prioritizing care of the animals at their center.

City officials say the center is currently in the process of filling four temporary, part-time positions. They hope to have those positions filled by early next month and will help them keep regular hours.

Adoptable animals can still be seen at the Center’s website, and those wishing to volunteer can apply on line as well.
