An Iowa City man who allegedly told authorities that he smoked marijuana on a regular basis when stopped as he was trying to leave the scene of a separate incident has been arrested.

Access to Plaen View Drive had been blocked off early Wednesday morning, and 32-year-old Jayson Shaw, who lives on the road, was attempting to turn around when police made contact with him. They allegedly detected the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle.

A probable cause search reportedly turned up two vape pens containing suspected THC oil , which was confirmed by Shaw.  A firearm was also found inside the vehicle. Shaw allegedly told police that the vape pens were purchased in Illinois, he smoked marijuana regularly, and had smoked prior to driving.

Shaw was charged with Marijuana possession and Person Ineligible to carry Offensive Weapons, and faces up to two years in jail if convicted on both counts.
