Two downtown Iowa City bar staffers were reportedly bitten by a customer they were trying to restrain.

Iowa City Police say at 1:15 Saturday morning patrons at Reunion Brewery on the Ped Mall warned staffers that 21-year-old Jairo Mendez Gonzales of Emerald Court was trying to assault other customers. When staff confronted Mendez Gonzales, he allegedly tried to assault them.

Police say Mendez Gonzales then bit two of the staff members who were restraining him. He allegedly showed signs of intoxication and registered a breath alcohol level of .113%.
Mendez Gonzales is charged with two counts of Assault Causing Bodily Injury and one count each of Disorderly Conduct and Public Intoxication. If convicted on all four charges, he faces a maximum of 26 months in jail.
