Operating a moped with too many riders just before bar closing over the weekend led to the arrest of a University of Iowa student.

The 22-year old was stopped for breaking the rider restriction at approximately 1:55am Saturday near the intersection of Burlington and Gilbert streets, and for reportedly making an improper right turn.

Upon contact, the student had bloodshot watery eyes, impaired speech, unsteady balance, and the odor of ingested alcohol. He refused PBT and Datamaster testing after showing measurable impairment on field sobriety tests.

Although the student was of legal drinking age, two fictitious driver’s licenses were found on his person. One featured his name and photograph but a false date of birth; the other he claimed to have found and had a woman’s photograph and information.

The student was charged with OWI first offense and possession of fictitious IDs. He faces a jail sentence of up to two years if convicted.
