A transient is accused of threatening to decapitate a domestic abuse victim who has a no-contact order against him.
61-year-old Adrian Stokes…who lists his address as Shelter House on Southgate Avenue…was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 5:00 Saturday morning. He was arrested just before 3 a.m. after a reported domestic assault in Iowa City’s Goosetown neighborhood. Iowa City Police say Stokes jumped out of a second-story window in an unsuccessful attempt to avoid capture, and he had marijuana on his person upon his arrest.
As he was being taken into custody, Stokes allegedly stated that once he gets out of jail, he’s going to return to the reported victim’s home and cut off her head, adding he would give officers “a real crime scene”. He later reportedly stated that the woman should hope she dies before he gets out of jail or he would kill her himself. Iowa City Police say Stokes continued to make threats about the woman on his way to jail.
Stokes is now charged with Domestic Abuse Assault – 3rd or Subsequent Offense, Domestic Abuse Assault Impeding Airflow, 1st Degree Harassment, Interference With Official Acts, Possession of a Controlled Substance, a No-Contact Order Violation, and Assault Against a Protected Party. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of 18 years in prison.
