Iowa City Police arrested a suspect who was reportedly carrying a gun on the Ped Mall overnight.
According to arrest records, officers were on the 100 block of South Dubuque Street just before 2:00 Sunday morning when they encountered 24-year-old Montrell Harris of East Prentiss Street, who had warrant for his arrest after he failed to appear at a March court date regarding a previous drug charge. Harris was taken into custody, and a search of his person reportedly turned up a Glock 19X with an extended magazine as well as marijuana.
Police say Harris pushed back against officers and was uncooperative. He’s now charged with Person Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons, Possession of Marijuana, and Interference With Official Acts. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of 25 months in jail.
