A routine traffic stop has led to the arrest of a woman wanted for a beating last winter that sent her sister to the hospital.
44-year-old Victoria Palmer of Broadway Street was pulled over by Iowa City Police near the intersection of Highway 6 and Keokuk Street at 4:00 Saturday afternoon for driving with a suspended license.
Palmer was wanted for a January 24th incident at Shelter House on Southgate Avenue. Police say Palmer and her sister drove to the facility together that afternoon to visit their mother. Palmer went inside to speak to her mother in the lobby, but the sister stayed in the back seat of the car. Palmer then reportedly came back outside, opened the rear door of the vehicle, and began punching her sister. The sister fought back, and Palmer allegedly dragged her out of the car and began striking her on the ground until others pulled her off. The sister suffered cuts, bruises and redness and required hospitalization.
Palmer is now charged with 1st Degree Burglary and Driving While Suspended. If convicted on the burglary charge, she faces a maximum of 25 years in prison.
