A Cedar Rapids man was arrested over the weekend for OWI, and allegedly fought with officers as he was being processed.

A Johnson County Sheriff’s deputy observed 46-year-old Tyree Cooper of 10th Street Southwest heading northbound on I380 just after midnight Sunday making a prohibited lane change and then leaving the roadway.  A traffic stop was initiated, and Cooper had signs of intoxication.  He reportedly showed measurable impairment on field tests and a PBT showed his breath-alcohol level over the legal limit.

Cooper was taken to the University of Iowa Department of Public Safety for Datamaster testing, where he allegedly became uncooperative.  Police say he was yelling and jumped out of his seat.  Cooper was told to sit down, and responded by squaring up with an officer.  He then had to be taken to the ground, with the help of multiple officers to get him into handcuffs.

Cooper was charged with OWI second offense and Interference with Official Acts. He faces a jail sentence of up to 25 months if convicted on both counts.
