A Kalona woman has been arrested on human trafficking charges after asking a Washington County deputy to unlock her car.
Washington County dispatch records indicate 41-year-old Jessica Beraza of Kalona requested a vehicle unlock on C Avenue just before 8:45 Thursday morning. The arriving deputy discovered that Beraza had a warrant out of Kenedy County, Texas for two counts of Smuggling of Persons.
The sentence upon conviction varies depending on the severity, but the minimum sentence for such charges in Texas is ten years in prison on each count.
