Governor Kim Reynolds ordered all flags in Iowa remain at half-staff from sunrise to sunset today, in honor and remembrance of former Iowa Senator and Iowa Board of Regents member Larry McKibben.
A Marshalltown native, McKibben served in the Iowa Senate from 1997 to 2010. In 2013, he was appointed to the Iowa Board of Regents, where he served until 2019. McKibben died Sunday, November 9, 2025, from Alzheimer’s Disease.
Flags on the State Capitol Building, flag displays in the Capitol Complex, and on all public buildings, grounds and facilities statewide are currently at half-staff in honor of former Vice President Dick Cheney who died November 3, 2025. Flags will remain at half-staff until sunset on the day of his interment. His funeral will be held November 20, 2025.
Others are encouraged to fly the flag at half-staff for the same length of time as a sign of respect.
