The undefeated Regina Regals went into overtime against 2024 champions West Lyon Thursday afternoon, but suffered a heartbreaking 34-27 loss in the Class 3A championship game.
The Regals had the momentum going into extras, blocking a 36-yard field goal as time expired to force overtime.
West Lyon scored on the first play of overtime and kicked the extra point for the 7-point lead. Regina had a chance to force another overtime after getting to the 1-yard line with three chances to score. Unfortunately, two runs were stuffed, then a bad snap caused a turnover on downs.
The Regals finish the season at 12-1.
Tonight, KCJJ will have the Class 5A State Championship game, featuring Liberty taking on top-ranked Des Moines Dowling. Coverage begins at 7pm here on the mighty 1630 KCJJ with Ray Gilmore on the call.
