An Iowa City man wanted by police on an assault warrant was arrested Sunday night.
According to court documents, 23-year-old Marlos Bishop Jr of the Town and Campus Apartments got into a verbal argument with the victim the evening of May 29th. During the argument, Bishop allegedly began punching the victim in the face while in the back of a vehicle. The victim got out and began to run away, but tripped and fell to the ground. Bishop then reportedly stood over the victim and punched him an additional six times in the face and stomped on his head.
Surveillance video allegedly shows the victim covering up and not fighting back. They suffered multiple open and bleeding wounds as a result of the incident.
A warrant was issued for Bishop’s arrest June 3rd, and he remained at large after moving to Cedar Rapids. Iowa City police stopped him near the intersection of Williams and Wayne streets at around 9:45pm for driving while barred for being an habitual offender.
Bishop faces one count each of Willful Injury causing Bodily Injury and Driving while Barred. He could be sentenced to up to seven years in prison if convicted on the charges.
