Iowa City man charged with multiple violations of no contact order

An Iowa City man allegedly used both his and another inmate’s account to contact the subject of a no-contact order multiple times this week.

According to court records, 25-year-old Jaquon Hemphill of the Quarters apartment complex on Highway 6 East was arrested November 15th for Assault with the use or display of a Weapon, Failure to affix Tax Stamp, Interference with Official Acts with the use of a Weapon, a Class D controlled substance violation, Dominion or Control of a Firearm by a Domestic Abuse offender, Dominion or Control of a weapon by a Felon, Harassment, Unlawful Possession of a Prescription drug, and Marijuana Possession.  He had his initial court appearance the same day, and was issued a no contact order to prevent him from contacting the victim.

On November 23rd, Hemphill allegedly called the protected party’s phone eight times. He also reportedly used another inmate’s Canteen account for one call. In all, he allegedly called the protected party a total of 26 times between around 10:25am and 10:40pm that day.

Hemphill faces contempt charges for the incidents. He could be sentenced to up to 30 years in prison if convicted on the charges related to the November 15th arrest.
